The Friends of Crater Lake National Park is seeking volunteers to assist the staff at Crater Lake National Park at the Rim Village winter desk and Steel Visitor Center.
Volunteers will answer questions, provide information, pass out maps and materials and assist the park staff. They will be trained in dealing with the public, learn about one of the nation’s oldest national parks, wear an identifying uniform and be provided with winter park housing, weather and scheduling permitting.
Volunteer coordinator Larry Smith said the Friends wants to create a corps of 10 to 15 volunteers. Each will be encouraged to volunteer for two regularly scheduled, consecutive weekend days at a time. Weather conditions may alter the schedule.
Smith hopes a staffing schedule will be in place by mid-November so that park staff can adjust their employee schedules.
A volunteer training will be held Saturday, Nov. 22, at the room above the Rim Village Store /Café. The first weekend available for scheduling will be Nov. 29-30. The program will run through April 2009.
To sign up or for more information contact Larry Smith, Volunteer Coordinator, Jacksonville, OR email jvsmith@clearwire. net.
