Ski patrol volunteers needed at Crater Lake Park
Crater Lake Institute
October 10, 2008
If you love backcountry skiing, then the Crater Lake Ski Patrol has an opportunity for you: Volunteers are needed this winter to patrol the national park’s cross-country ski trails and provide visitors with information and emergency medical services if needed.
Ski patrol volunteers will learn wilderness first aid, survival and ski skills, winter shelter construction, avalanche awareness, search and rescue protocols, how to use GPS, helicopter safety, and will also receive a map, compass and ropes.
Mandatory training sessions are held at Crater Lake National Park on Nov. 1 and 2 and also on Dec. 6 and 7. Volunteers will sign up for three ski patrol weekends between December and April 2009.
