Impacts of Visitor Spending on Local Economy:
Crater Lake National Park, 2001
Crater Lake National Park Visitor Survey, 2001
A park visitor study was conducted at Crater Lake National Park from August 3rd to 9th, 2001. The study measured visitor demographics, trip planning, travel expenditures, and facility importance and quality. Questionnaires were distributed to a sample of 600 visitors at two park entrances2. Visitors returned 484 questionnaires for an 80.7% response rate. See Littlejohn (2001) for survey details. For this report, we carried out custom analyses of visitor spending and trip characteristics measured by the survey. Some results here will vary from the original VSP report due to handling of outliers and adjustments for off- season visitors.
