Paul G. Metzen, 93, died Dec. 2, 2000, at his Lakeview home. A memorial mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Lakeview with Father Raymond Hopp officiating. Ousley Osterman Huffstutter Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Metzen was born Aug. 1, 1907, in Merlin to Mathias and Anna (Gohl) Matzen. He was raised and educated in Grants Pass, where he graduated from high school. He served in the Civil Conservation Corps for four years, during which time he was stationed at Crater Lake, the Columbia Gorge, and Gold Beach. Mr. Metzen moved to Lakeview in 1939 and worked in the timber industry there. He married Lorraine Fehliman, a Lakeview kindergarten teacher, on Nov. 22, 1943, in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Lakeview. After his retirement from Louisiana Pacific in 1972, he enjoyed travel and was a frequent volunteer at the Lake County Senior Citizens Center. Mr. Metzen was a member of the Eagles Lodge for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine Metzen of Lakeview; son, Robert Metzen of Chico, Calif.; daughters and sons-in-law, Marcia and Dennis Warren of Sandy and Pat and George Hall of Mount Angel; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Memorial donations may be made to Lakeview Home Health and Hospice, 700 S. J St., Lakeview, OR 97630, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
