CRATER LAKE – East Rim Drive at Crater Lake National Park is closed for the winter.
Park officials said the recent series of storms has created snow and icy road conditions that resulted in the usual seasonal closure. The North Entrance and the West Rim Drive, however, reopened Monday. Those roads will be closed when snow covers those routes.
As usual, the park’s south and west entrance roads from Fort Klamath-Klamath Falls and Medford-Prospect, respectively, will remain open for visitor traffic on a year-round basis.
Updated information on road and weather conditions at the park can be obtained by calling park headquarters at 594-3000, which is a toll-free call from Klamath Falls.
Winter season visitor services are offered at the Will Steel Visitor Information Center at the park headquarters complex in Munson Valley. The center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A park orientation is shown throughout the day on request and a sales area is operated by the Crater Lake Natural History Association.
The Rim Village gift store and cafeteria are open year-round, weather permitting. Winter hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends, holidays and vacation periods. Limited food service is available.
