Crater Lake National Park Centennial Oral Histories
Dode Collier, 1946-1947
I worked at the gift shop the summers of 1946 and 1947. An opportunity which I treasured was meeting the tourists from all over the world and hearing their comments. We were very well fed and one dish which stands out in my mind was the magnificent poached salmon which the Chinese chefs in the cafeteria made for us.
One thing which I will never forget is swimming in that frigid water and trying to climb back to the rim. Didn’t think I’d ever make it.
